Aquarium Cap Blanc, more popularly known as "Sa cova de ses llagostes", owes its nickname to the traditional use of the cave as a lobster nursery.
In its beginnings, at the beginning of the 20th century, lobsters were stored alive in the cave and transported by steamships equipped with nurseries to markets in Barcelona and other cities.
Following the Spanish Civil War, this activity gradually decreased due to various national and international conflicts until it was completely abandoned in the mid-1940s.
In 1977, its use as a lobster nursery was recovered to supply some local fish markets, and in 1989, the cave was adapted to build the first public aquarium in Ibiza, with a varied representation of the most typical coastal species of our island.
